I see what you’ve done here, RA. So much for you never deleting posts on your own website, eh? Most people delete posts they find offensive. You delete them to be offensive.

Oh, and I do see your point. And find it irrelevant to current events. Why reward Dawn for something she did in the past?

    Um, what?

Erm… I think she has already been rewarded by becoming the person she is today…

I was also a teenage “civil rights protester” and I also ended up turning orthodox Christian – because I also realised that concrete human rights are based on religious tradition, and supporting that tradition is the duty that enables the rights.

Hey, next time you quote someone, reference the quote, please! This is important academic practise and good manners too :)

“…concrete human rights are based on religious tradition, and supporting that tradition is the duty that enables the rights…” –1dayin7

    ????? (!)

Pardon my extreme rudeness and offensiveness, but what crackpipe have you been smoking?! Religious tradition supports the wholesale slaughter of unbelievers, mandates abject subordination of individuals to the iron and ineffable will of god, and punishes them for exercising their (allegedly god-given) power of reason in the pursuit of knowledge! In the world today it is religious tradition which makes breeding sows of women, holds back the progress of life-saving sciences, and destroys the minds of children by making them incapable of rational thought! Religious tradition amounts to an all out war on the individual and his mind! Human rights are only possible when you acknowledge that being human is right! Religious tradition says that this state is imperfect and unnatural for the soul! Yours is the dumbest blind assertation I have ever seen from a theist in all my years of friendly debate with them! I prefer to keep things civil and inoffensive, but in this case I will make an exception! Only a blind, moronic imbecile would not see the glaring contradiction between human rights and a belief that humans are flawed, sinful, dirty, repulsive and unworthy!

    Viole,

I guess after three years of trying so hard not to be offensive to anybody, I slipped. I’m sorry.

    Qwertz–
The “religious tradition” you seem to be describing (“a belief that humans are flawed, sinful, dirty, repulsive and unworthy!”) pops up
    a) as a subset of several traditions, and was for centuries decried by Christians as heresy (i.e., the Cathars)
    b) entered mainstream Christianity via the thought of John Calvin, who lacks universal support.
Did you have a specific religious tradition in mind? Because it’s far from true to say that all religious traditions believe the statement you ascribed to them. But don’t worry, I’m not offended.

Trying not to be offensive? Uh, yeah.

At least you put it back, and people can find out the truth if they take the trouble. So I’ll forgive you. The reason you managed to offend me so much is simply that dishonesty, accidental or not, is devastating to logic. Not only is it similar to quote mining and destroying the evidence, it looks like you’re hiding something.

Not, I suspect, that you care about my good opinion.

    Viole,

The intention from the start was to put it back after bagging a few more prey. It is a tactic similar to ones I have applied before and I always come clean in the end. In this case I did it on impulse after seeing that wonderfully innocent comment. I think it is the context in which I did it that upsets you most and that if my intended victims were on a different part of the political spectrum you would have found it funny and not have been tempted to tell the kids there was not such a thing as Santa Claus.

And you know I treasure your readership and always will.

…yeah alright? Either i’m confused on exactully what we are writing about, or we are all a tad off the topic…

Are we supossivly ‘rewarding’ a lady who protested against the 1 min, of siolence?

if so to a point yeah i guess i agree that there isn’t really a place for it in the public school system, they dont need that monotheistic shit being driven into their childrens minds.

not sure about America but in Australia, The 1872 Victorian government introduced free, compulsory and secular education, which excluded the teaching of religion in government schools.
+ the Public Instruction Act (1880) and the The Church Act’s. (all opposing the use of religiouse education in public schools.

Therefore yeah if public schools are going to use religiouse tratitions even as simple as a minute of silence fuck em, take that shit to religiouse schools. Oh and also i go 2 a catholic school… and we dont do any of that shit, just occasionly get some obsolete bull shit prayre / theory read to us.

However even if that lady is against that, for her to be athiest, she wouldnt beleive in any of that crap, so why does it bother her? wow the students are wasting 1 minute of their life daily.

If she is against the whole force feeding of religiouse tratitions, she should also be against the force feeding of all tratitions, in the fact that for her to go against the religion and put her opinion across trying to abolish the original ‘problem’ she is just as bad as the people wanting the pledge/ prayre.

either way generally always 2 sides to an arguement, no idea if i answered the question or just rambled on about some random shit… Ciao

No complaint about my breeding sows reference? Or the corrupting of children? Hm. Anyway, last I checked, Genesis and Leviticus were much much older than the Cathars and Calvin, and have you read the your Koran lateley? Any belief in an afterlife-paradise is sick and immoral, because it sets death as something to be anticipated with joy rather than postponed with mortal fervor. Any belief in a creator-god due praise and worship is a betrayal of your own nature and power. Any faith-based belief in things which by definition should not, cannot, or must not exist is suicide by asphyxiation of the only tool of survival you have.

“Anyway, last I checked, Genesis and Leviticus were much much older than the Cathars and Calvin, and have you read the your Koran lateley?”

Ah, so you’re not so keen on the religious traditions of the Abramic faiths? I see. You seemed to be conflating all religious traditions into having the same belief in the revolting nature of physical existence.

“Any belief in a creator-god due praise and worship is a betrayal of your own nature and power. ”
My nature and power? In what way are those impinged on by belief in a creator? My nature is not to create anything other than human babies. My power may be in manipulating existing matter to build something or create a work of art, but I didn’t create the matter itself. So I’m not sure how that follows.

“Any faith-based belief in things which by definition should not, cannot, or must not exist is suicide by asphyxiation of the only tool of survival you have.”
Are you talking about deities here? Or is this a reference to the above ancient belief that somehow, bodies are not supposed to exist? If deities, then I would say that the amount of art, science, and philosophy that has been done universally in the name of gods would be a good indicator that belief in the divine doesn’t immediately asphixiate the brain. As for the other, since I don’t believe that the body is bad (if that’s what you were trying to say), it doesn’t apply to me. Guess my brain can keep on breathing.

I hope I’m not that hypocritical, RA. I certainly try and judge all people on their merits, and not to exploit silly mistakes. That can be hard to do.

I can tell you that who a person was isn’t who they are. I don’t know why Dawn decided to protest a minute of silence, but I doubt you’d have tried your little joke if you didn’t think she’d do the same today. However, I’m a bit more picky in my choice of allies. Separation of church and state isn’t enough to get me to support a conservative christian.

Hmmm… Qwertz is the first 6 letters on the German keyboard. The Y and the Z are inverted due to the Z being more prevalent in that language. That’s cool.

That said, it’s sad to hear that you think that all religions are anti-human. Personally, I think it’s great to be human.

And I agree with the Cable Guy.
